Happy Anniversary Grant! Today I have been married to my best friend for 4 years.
Our Story:
I met Grant in college through our friends Hill and Emily. I was not showered and wearing sweatpants when he came over for a game night. I was slightly mortified because I thought he was good looking but I was also dating someone else at the time. The next time I saw him was at their house again, we all met for dinner. I came straight from student teaching, stopped for some gas and locked my keys in my car while it was still running. Luckily in a college town you know a lot of people and a girl I knew drove up and gave me a ride. I had her drop me off at Emily's house, walked in and announced my stupid mistake. Grant was so helpful and concerned, he offered to drive to the gas station and sit by my car until we could get in. I ended up driving around with him trying to locate my roommate for the extra key, all the while starting to really love Grant Baker. After that we started to hang out regularly, we would meet to watch Grey's Anatomy on Sunday. By the time I graduated I was madly in love with him and he had no idea. So I graduated and he still had one year left. During the last week of college we all decided it would be "fun" to go to the bars every night. One night at the bar I got to talking to Grant and he asked "if I was ready to leave Stillwater". I wasn't, especially since he and my other friend Emily were going to stay another year. In a not so sober conversation Grant mentioned to me that he wondered what would have happened with us if I didn't have to leave Stillwater...my first clue he might actually like me. Well the summer came and I was missing my college friends while living with my parents and teaching summer school. I would text Grant every once in awhile and he would graciously respond. I was still "dating" a guy in Canyon who I didn't really care for anymore but he was my only friend my age in Canyon. I was annoyed with him and thought I would tell Grant my silly girl drama. After I read out loud what I was going to text I thought this is dumb, if you like this boy don't let him think you are dramatic, he doesn't care. I deleted the message and closed my phone. A few minutes later I got a message back that said "anyone would be luckily to date you". Oh crap, my message had sent, I checked my outbox and it wasn't there, no trace that the message ever sent. Later that summer I was driving to Oklahoma City with my friend Emily (Dub is what we call her) to see our other friend Emily (Hill is her nickname). We decided to call Grant because we hadn't talked to him in awhile. Somehow we invited ourselves to his parent's lake house for the 4th of July. It was supposed to be several people but slowly dwindled down to Grant, me, and Dub. Oh well two of my favorite people!! Somehow on the trip Grant and I fell in love, literally it happened that weekend. We had our first date on the 4th of July weekend and started dating all the while living in two different states. I couldn't believe I was dating my crush. If you are a woman you understand the importance of that. Women rarely get to end up with their crush unless they are staring in a romantic comedy. We dated for 4 months and we knew the first weekend that we would get married, it was truly God because I would never move that fast. Grant proposed on his birthday in November and we were married June 30th, exactly 1 year from our 4th of July weekend at the lake. We are practically the same person just one male and one female. Several of my friends think we act like Tina Fey and Steve Carrel in "Date Night". Just two peas in a pod, best friends!
